Community
Interactions, Inc. (CI) was founded by Gerald Saulino, former President
and Chairman. In 1971, he began seeking an alternative to the
then-existing institutionalization of people with disabilities like his
brother, Albert. His vision was to create an organization whose focus
would be to provide programs, services and supports to individuals with
developmental disabilities or mental illness, in less restrictive
settings in the community, through a private, non-profit, community
organization. The reality of that dream was realized in 1973 when CI
opened its first home for children with developmental disabilities in
Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Today, Community Interactions serves over
160 people with developmental disabilities and mental challenges in both
Pennsylvania and Delaware. CI's philosophy remains one of inclusion and
community interaction through person centered planning.
Mission.
CI's Mission is to provide person-centered services and lifestyle
choices to individuals with developmental disabilities or mental
illness, so they may live as meaningful and contributing members of
their communities, consistent with the everyday lives, rights and
responsibilities of all citizens.
Vision.
Our Vision is to empower the people we support by fostering an
environment in which they are recognized and respected as individuals.
We accomplish this by providing innovative programs, services and
supports chosen by them, and providing opportunities that enable each
person to live a full and productive life in the community.
Values.
Community Interactions' Values encourage us to treat the individuals we
support with dignity, respect, caring and understanding, while
promoting their rights to self-determination and choice. We promote an
agency culture that recognizes staff contributions and treats each
staff member with honesty and integrity, while encouraging continued
learning and advancement. We recognize and use the power of diversity.
We promote collaboration among individuals, families, staff and the
community.
