DELAWARE COMMUNITY LIVING
Neighborhood Homes
and
Community Living Arrangements
Community Interactions provides community living options for persons with
Autism and/or developmental disabilities. The homes are funded by the State of
Delaware's Division of Developmental Disabilities Services (DDDS), and support
persons with various disabilities to live in safe and comfortable living
environments. As with our Pennsylvania
programs, the number of people living together in a home or apartment varies
with the locations and the degree of structure, support and care required.
Each home is staffed with
qualified Direct Support Professionals who provide assistance and care as
determined by the individuals needs. Staff is present at all times when the
individual is at home unless they are capable of having unsupervised time. Individuals
who are capable of greater independence may live more independently and require
less staff assistance. Each individual is assessed so that an ELP is developed
to help maintain or develop their skills in activities of daily living such as eating,
dressing, grooming, banking, meal preparation, and housekeeping.
We also support the individuals
we serve in enjoying everything that the community has to offer. They have
access to a variety of options the same as other people in the community. People are assisted to participate in leisure
and recreational trips to museums, arboretums, historical battlefields, movies,
art programs, sporting events and petting zoos. Individuals who are more active enjoy
horseback riding, skating, trips to shore, swimming among other options.
Individuals are encouraged to visit their family’s homes and to maintain close
relationships that are important to their quality of life.
Finally,
we coordinate a wide range of additional therapeutic services for
individuals depending on their needs. These services may include
nursing, behavioral supports, occupational, speech/adaptive
communication and other therapies.
